This application is designed to improve an experience with Wacom tablets. Sometimes you have to press your pen with unnecessary force to get maximum opacity. It is possible to modify pen response through tablet configuration, but the available options are limited and maximum required force is unchanged. This application allows you to modify all three control points of the tablet sensitivity curve and subsequently achieve custom and improved pen sensitivity.
The application requires elevated privileges.

To make this work in win 7 this is what I had to do:
Run the curve tool.exe
Make an adjustment
Untick auto-detect service
Select WTabletServiceCon
Apply changes
Go to control panel/administrative tools
Services
Restart the wacom service
Open drawing software.
Unfortunately I have to repeat those steps every time I make a tweak.
Is there a quicker way?
Thanks for reporting this. I’m aware of some problems with services on 64-bit systems (Win7+). New version (1.6.9.5) should fix some of these issues.
For restarting I would like to add some “help” on this page for quicker way if the tool is not working.
Update: I have added a “Restart guide”, hope this helps..
The instructions above work very well for me (and the batch file from the the Restart Guide). I’m using Windows 7 64 with 1.6.9.5. Thank-you so much for for making this application. It gives do much more control and the pen feels much more natural.
Thanks!!!
whenever i try to apply changes i just get a cmd.exe window that says “service name is invalid” (windows 7 64, latest wacom drivers for cintiq 21ux)
Sorry for my late response. The solution should be to uncheck “Autodetect service” and select the right one for your driver. With the right service should popup window inform about success with service restart.
Update : Also you might try the new 1.6.9.5 version – New version should fix some x64 related problems.
Hello! Do you happen to know if there’s a way to get this tool working in Windows 8? 🙂 Thanks!
I’m really sorry for my late response. The tool was designed originally for XP and tested for Win7 so now with Win8 and generally 64-bit systems is problematic to adapt. And the protfolio of Wacom product and driver versions is growing and it is impossibe for me to test majority of this combinations so.. im not sure when and if there will be full support of Win8. The tool at least should be able to assist with editing of the config file even if the “restaring service part” is not working properly.
Update: Also you might try the new 1.6.9.5 version – New version should fix some x64 and hopefully Win8 related problems.
UPDATE: I managed to repair it.
Hi, I’m glad that you have found a solution for the problem. The tool should have a simple backup / restore function for these situations.
Hi,
I have tried to use the tool, but now when I use the brush tool in Photoshop there is no line at all. Only the pen tool works as usual. I have deleted the program from my computer and restarted, but the problem remains.
Do you have an idea what I should do to get back the brush?
I have an Intuos 3 and Windows 7 / 64. Driver is 6.3.4-3
Help would be appreciated as I need to use the brush for a work assignment. Thank you!
Hi! First off, I would just like to thank you for this amazing software! I’m currently using a 64-bit Win OS with a Wacom Bamboo Pen tablet, and I have encountered a few problems with the program.
The “Auto-detect service” doesn’t seem to work properly. It suggested TabletServicePen to me, but WServiceTabletCon was the one that worked. No major issue there! However, the first time i run the program it goes through successfully, but if I’m not pleased with the settings and want to change, it doesn’t work anymore. Photoshop states that there is something wrong with the hardware driver, and the only solution I’ve found to the problem is to re-install the driver entirely.
Hi, thanks for your reply and bug report. The auto detection of services is broken on 64-bit systems and so there is possibility to choose correct one – it is however a temporary solution.
For the second issue… Was all applications using tablet closed when the tool was used? Did you try to delete configuration / restore backup file and restart (the tool modifies only config file so it should be possible to use automatic backup that tool does and reboot – driver should be working again).
If the problems is still occuryng it could be helpful to send me your wacom configuration file for further analysis. Thanks again!
Hey Karel! I’m sorry for not responding until now. What I did was I download a driver from 2011 for my tablet, and everythinbg worked flawlessly, so I forgot that I posted the bug report.
Yes, the restore worked if I remember correctly. I bet your new beta version took take of the minor issue I had 🙂 Cheers!
Hey I just heard about your tool this evening on an art tutorial video my Matt Kohr on ctrlpaint.com!
I thought that it would really change how I paint digitally… But, Alas, I have a “Genius Mousepen 6×8 Tablet” not a “Wacom” brand… Any chances you will ever make a Genius tool? 😆
Sorry, for a disappointing answer, but this tool is Wacom specific, because it is possible to modify Wacom driver configuration file with new values. And this tool just tries to simplify the whole process. Genius drivers are completely different and so there is a high probability that tool like this would not work, but unfortunately I don’t have any experience with Genius tablets..
No worries. Thanks for your quick and honest reply! I will just have to deal with the wrist strain I guess! 😥
Hello again 🙂
I am very impressed about your superfast reaction about my report XD
When I tried your new beta version, however, I got the wrong service name error…
I have previously written a batch file that restarts the Wacom service for myself, to overcome certain error specific to the device(Thinkpad helix) I am currently using.
I used this command:
sc stop WTabletServiceISD
timeout /t 2
sc start WTabletServiceISD
For your information, the new driver installs to the following path(a little different from some previous versions…)
“C:Program FilesTablet”
Thanks for your effort, and I hope my report could help you, at least a little bit 🙂
Ah, never mind, I missed your Auto-detect service part :p
I am testing the tool now, and it doesn’t show the service name error. Still gotta do more testing on the performance… Thanks!
The beta version seems to be working even on the newest driver. Thanks! You are truly improving other people’s lives!
Thanks, I’m glad that the application seems to be working. Feel free to write any comments, bugs or suggestions. The tool is labeled Beta, because even with my best effort and after analysis of driver setup files my ability to test the tool on different devices is very limited. So thanks people like You it is possible for me to improve this tool…
Just one thing…
I think it may be helpful to put in a timed delay or status check code in restarting the tablet service… right now tablet service restart doesn’t seem to work all the time. Quite often I had to press the apply button two times to make the tablet service running.
Thanks for advice. I’ll look into it. In your example of stopping service is used command “sc”. I’m using command “net” for stopping service, because it should wait for service termination, “sc”command does not wait. So there “should” be no need for delay, but … “should” 😉
Hi, I really love your tool, Thanks for your effort in making world a better place to live 🙂
Recently I found out that the latest Wacom driver has changed its service name into “WTabletServiceISD”, and the older versions of your tools no longer work on these versions…Can you please update the software so that it can also work for the latest drivers?
Hi, thanks for your bug report. Hopefully I manage to release an updated version soon.
Hi, I assume the answer is no, but can the maximum nib force setting be increased on the S-pen? I find that the stylus hits its maximum force level too quickly (for not a lot of nib force).
thanks,
Ella F
Yep. Looks like it able to recognize just about 1/4 of intuous3 pressure sensitivity, and it is really sad. If there is any way to fix this – will be great.
I find the solution. You can search for “s-pen fix” on youtube. You can adjust sensor manually. (it is behind side button).
Sorry for my late reply. Thankfully Lama (thanks) found the solution for you. Tablet tool modifies configuration of Wacom drivers on Windows systems. S-Pen uses, I believe, similar HW design as Wacom pen but what are the possibilities of modifying pen settings within Android system are unknown for me. And this looks like a HW problem and as Lama mentioned the solution is tweak the potentiometers inside the pen How to Adjust Your S-Pen Sensitivity.
Ah, I foind it out that WTabletServiceCon matches my service. My bad. 😉
Hi, thanks for reply. Name of the service in Windows and the actual command line name are different. I know that this is not the best and a little confusing solution, but it should be temporary. For most users should work auto-detection of the service and for the rest it should help at least after some experimenting to select the right service and consequently restart service without leaving the application window.
Hi Karel! It’s nice to see that you added the option for selecting the tablet service manually, however the service which runs on my PC isn’t listed, so I have to turn it off in the services window every time I tweak the curve. The name of the service is “Wacom Consumer Service”. It would be nice to have it in the next version.
Hi, Are there any plans for a Mac version? Looks like a really handy tool that would make using my Graphie4 easier…
Sorry, no plans for Mac version now. But I saw a tool specifically designed for Mac by someone. Maybe Conceptart.org – Wacom forum section somewhere (?). If I would remembered a link I will post it here.
Some Mac tool for pressure curve is here : PenPressurizer by Eric Nitardy.
Oh, god, I hand’t seen the pdf. Sorry for the last question.
But I’ve got another one. The “Save” option in the “File” menu, what does it save and where?
It saves modified values to currently opened config.
Hello,
Could you explain me in a few lines what do the 2 thresold values do? I understand that one should be the pressure value when the pen starts producing a line, but, the second? what is it for?
Thnx in advance.
Lower threshold – Value that cuts pens input and protects the user from misreads.
Upper threshold – Value that determines level of pressure required for driver to register pen as mouse with pressed button.
Setting pressure threshold too high can end with no ability to click or drag in Windows. Changing of these values is required for improving sensitivity of your tablet. (It is pointless to change lower point of pressure curve to almost zero if lower threshold is actually cutting all pressure values below its value)
Ah, that clarifies it. So I only really have to care about the lower threshold for the drawing part. Thanks a lot.
Hi, I’m on vista x64, intuos 4, with drivers 6.34-3. When I click apply changes a cmd dos promt appears and it says “the name of the service is not valid” “you can get more help with the comand NET HELP MSG 2185” (all this in spanish). Any idea what I’m doing wrong? I opened the soft with admin rights. I don’t have wacom properties open but WacomHost.exe, Wacom_TabletUser.exe, Wacom_Touchuser.exe and Wacom_Tablet.exe seems to be running. Thanks for your help.
Sorry for late response. It’s probably a bug in Tablet tool. I have limited access to test the tool with different tablet and pc configurations/drivers. The tool is trying to execute command (it could be reviewed before you hit OK on VAC prompt) that should restart tablet service. But i your case the tool is using wrong service name. Applying changes and rebooting should do the trick…
Hi there, I came across your Tablet Pressure Curve Tool, tested versions 1.6.6.0 Beta and 1.6.5.0. When I unzip the file and run it, line on the bottom of the window says “Wacom_tablet.dat configuration file is without necessary values -> Try to run Wacon Configuration first”.
However I run and adjust things in “Wacom Tablet Properties”, I can’t get curve to show in program window, it’s just empty UI without anything to adjust, pen dropdown too says “No File”. Dat file is available in the system, tried to “run as admin” for software, wacom driver is the currently latest version 6.3.4-3. Intuos 4 M on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
I know that latest wacom driver itself has end point tuning options for pressure curve, but I’d like to test your tool too as it might allow even more fine tuning!
Thanks!
Sorry for late response. There are some major changes in Wacom drivers and I don’t have sufficient means to test the tool on various configurations. For tool to be able adjust pressure curve values there must be valid configuration file present. But i your case, for some reason there is no config file or a config file without necessary values and in that case the tool is unable to modify something that does not exists.
Try to open current configuration file manually (File->Open).
Thanks for the reply, I already tried opening wacom config manually, I get the same error message about “…run wacom configuration first”.
I tried opening “Wacom_Tablet.dat” with both 1.6.5.0 and 1.6.6.0 versions of your tool.
BTW: I completely understand that this is free tool, I’d just like to see it working, as Wacom driver itself is limiting adjustments to certain values thus limiting the use of hardware.
Would it help if I sent you my wacom.dat file? Not pushing it but if you feel like you are still going to continue working on this tool.
Thanks!
It would hopefully help. But I would need a little bit more info if it is possible.
You can send me config file and is location (if the path contains user name (personal stuff etc.) you can/should change it – I just need to know general location). And name and location of the service that is used. (It should be located inside installation folder of tablet driver in “Program FilesTablet” and in the folder/subfolders somewhere should be exe file with “service” in its name).
Contact is on this website in “about” section..
Hi Karel, I sent you all the infos about driver files I could find, I hope it’s helpful – Thanks!
The latest Wacom drivers broke this tool, it seems the services the driver used changed their names. The error happens when applying the changes, everything else seems to be working fine.
Thanks for report. Version 1.6.6.0 should address described issue.
Hello,
Extremely useful tool you’ve got here. I’ve been wanting this for a while.
Just one question. Does Windows remember the curve after a reboot? I open the tool and it shows the default curve again. I just wanna know if I have to apply it or it’s just that the tool doesn’t read the system setting.
Thanks in advance.
It’s necessary to apply or save modified values. Without this step the configuration file for your tablet is left unmodified.
Why do I lose all pressure sensitivity when I hit “apply changes” even without touching the graph?
Hi,the apply button save changes to the config file and restarts Wacom service. So in your case, there is possibility that the service failed to restart and in that case Wacom tablet is handled by default Microsoft driver without pressure support. In that case it should work to save configuration and restart the whole system. The whole problem could be also caused by unsupported Wacom model or driver version.
I have the intuos5 with the newest driver.
There could be some changes in configuration on Wacom side, but I believe, that there is setting in newest Wacom driver that does exactly the same as this tool and probably better.
Wacom implemented this function because it was quite important and there was no other way than this tool or editation of config file. But there should be now driver settings and it should be the best way.
I am having this same issue on an MS Surface Pro. Applying the changes shows that the Wacom service is restarted, but then I lose all pressure response from the pen in Photoshop and if I try to launch the tablet driver settings I get an error that says the driver can’t be found. I assume the service is not actually restarting. This is using the newest Wacom Feel driver that gives pressure sensitivity on the Surgface Pro. I dont see anywhere in the actual driver settings to adjust pressure curve. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your feedback Joel. I will look into it. Is it possible to send me your wacom configuration file? There is a lot of wacom devices with different configurations and my resources are limited so it is impossible for me to test this tool properly. But the config file could be at least some help.
Id be happy to send it. Let me know which files you need (and where they’re located) and where to send them. Thanks!
Thanks for your effort! There should be configuration files for the wacom device in C:UsersAppDataRoamingWTablet folder. These files are basically XML files with saved settings. It could be helpful for me to debug this tool on files generated by driver on your hw configuration, because it could reveal some bugs in the tool.
At the bottom of the program it says “Wacom Configuration File Not Found…” And I’m unable to do anything. ): I’m not sure what to do.
Sorry for the really late response, WordPress somehow managed not to inform me about a new comment.
To the question. There are several locations in system where Wacom configuration file is stored. With no configuration file found in system there is no way for the tool to modify pressure curve values. So, you can try to run Wacom configuration tool first – that should create a valid config file or open configuration file manually with File->Open.

Hi I have a laptop runing widows 7 x64
With photoshop cs5 for drawing and painting
And ZBrush 4r2 for sculpting
Soon get painter
At this time I have a wacom bamboo fun
But it’s time to upgrade so I was going for either the medium Wacom intuos 4 or new 5
So my question is will this has anybody use this Tablet-Pressure-Curve-Tool
with the wacoms I mention above?
It is possible to use it with Intuoso tablets to customize pressure curve. This tool was developed because pressure curve setting was removed from tablet configuration at some point. But as I saw on some screenshots the feature is back in newest drivers of pro-level tablets (6.2.0w5) and it does the same job. (probably Wacom noticed, that there is too many peoples messing with pressure curve so they finally decided to implement the feature back)
For give me i am trying to understand before i buy So are you saying that the intuos models are pro level Tablets?
So are you saying if I buy either the Wacom intuos 4 or 5 I won’t need this Tablet Pressure Curve Tool ?
Wacom have three “classes” of tablet product. The most basic (entry level) “class” is now called Bamboo. Second “class” – Intuoso is considered for general professional work and is mostly used by graphics designers. The third “class” named clinq is really expensive, but you are able to literally draw on the monitor.
I could recommend Concept Art forum – Wacom section (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=155) – there is a lot of threads about wacom tablets. But, of course, it is discussion forum so expect that there is a lot of people with problems. Users without problems does not talk about their “positive experience” on the web.
You can use this tool with Intuoso tablets. There is a lot of users with intuoso tablets that are using this tool. The “sensitivity” of pen is a quite personal so some users can work without pressure curve modification, but some with “lighter hands” appreciate some adjustments. And yes, the new driver should have implemented functionality of this tool so it is not necessary to use this tool and use driver settings instead.
Thanks so much for your help
I just told my friend that is heavy handed when he draws on his Wacom intuos 4
so he just upgrade to the lastest driver for his model and he said he notice a great difference right way he is very happy
Now I been over reading at Wacom forum and some people don’t seem to be too happy about the new intuos 5
I think I might go with the intuos 4
Unless you have notice something different and better beside the muilt touch thingy that can have better control over drawing straight lines and curves better that 5 can do better then 4?
Sadly I don’t have personal experience neither with intuos4 neither with intuos5. But I remember when Intuos4 was entering market there was a lot of complaints about usb connectors, fast wearing tips and so on… but in the end everybody in design business was (and still is) using intuos4 and except probably few unlucky guys problems generally disappeared. And i believe the same “hype” is going on with intuos5. So it is wise to consider what are people complaining about, but some problems will be fixed in the newer drivers and after few years it could be difference to work with one generation old tablet or two generation old… The happy customers with intuos5 are probably still drawing and they don’t have time to “chat” about their awesome new toy so on discussion forums is always some disproportion.
Finally my tablet feels like I expected it to feel when I bought it. Big thanks!
